Early Life of ELON MUSK


Childhood:



On June 28, 1971 Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa. His father, Errol Musk, a South african electromechanical Engineer, sailor and a pilot and his mother, Maye Musk, a dietician and model from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He has two siblings, one younger brother, Kimbal(born 1972) and one younger sister named Tosca(Born 1974). He has a multi cultural influence in his blood as his paternal grandmother was British and maternal grandmother was American. In 1980, parents of Elon Musk got divorced and he also has a half sister and half brother.

From very early age he had developed a deep interest in computer programming,at the age of 12 he had developed an expert level skill set. He was a keen reader and his reading practice included Foundation series of Isaac Asimov, he took a deep lesson that “you should try to take the set of actions that are likely to prolong civilization, minimize the probability of a dark age and reduce the length of a dark age if there is one” from this series. Prior his 18th birthday he moved to Canada ‘in June 1989. His mother was Canadian-born, so, he had obtained Canadian citizenship easily.

Education:

He attended Queen’s University at the age of 17, after two years he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, from here he received a degree of Physics from the college of Arts and science and an economics degree from the Wharton school. After completing schooling he began a PhD in the sector of applied physics and material sciences in 1995 under Stanford University, but he dropped this decision only after two days and decided to start a career as an entrepreneur.


Career:


 Musk’s life portrays a brilliant balance of hard work, passion, integrity and bravery. He has taken many out of the box decisions and creates a bold example of will power. His deep down thought over the environmental issues has made him a unique personality in the corporate as well as social world.  

Zip2:

 Musk and his brother Kimble started a web software company in 1995 and named it Zip2. His deep interest in the sector of IT had boosted up this idea in him. For newspaper publishing industry, Zip2 Created and marketed an internet “city guide”. In this period Musk got contracts with Chicago Tribune and The New York Times. In February 1999, Compaq acquired Zip2 for US$34 million in Stock options and US$307million in Cash. Musk got US$22 million for his 7 percent share.

X.com and PayPal:

The next journey of Musk started in 1999, he co-founded X.com. It is basically a financial service company with e-mail payment methods. One year later X.com merged with a company named Confinity, it had a money transfer service called PayPal. In 2001, the company decided to concentrate on the PayPal service and become PayPal. PayPal was acquired by eBay in October 2002 for US$1.5billion in stock and Musk received US$165million.


 SpaceX:



 SpaceX was founded in May 2002 by Musk; it is a space transport service and aerospace Manufacturer company. Musk is the CEO as well as the lead designer of this eminent company. It is in the development of space launch vehicles with a process of advancing the position of rocket technology. This eminent company has received a contract from NASA in 2006 where they had to test and develop SpaceX Falcon launch Vehicle and Dragon spacecraft. They also had to transport cargo to the international space station.
The falcon heavy was successfully launched on February 6, 2018. It is the most powerful rocket in the operation and fourth-highest capacity rocket ever built.


Tesla:



Musk co-founded Tesla, a solar panel and electric vehicle manufacturer in 2003. He operates as its CEO and product architect. The company is a milestone in the arena of electric cars; the network of superchargers has increased dramatically in the East and West coasts of U.S and start to expand across North America, throughout the year.


SolarCity:



The initial financial structure and conception of SolarCity were given by Musk. by the year 2013, SolarCity was the second largest solar power systems provider in the United States. The main motive of SolarCity and Tesla is to prevent the global Warming affects, the innovative steps of Musk has motivated many passionate youths in the foundation of better tomorrow.

 OpenAI:

OpenAI is a not-for-profit artificial intelligence (AI) research company; it is founded in December 2015. The main aim of OpenAI is to develop artificial general intelligence for the betterment of humanity. This company provides Artificial intelligence for everyone.

Neuralink:

In the year 2016, Musk co-founded a neurotechnology startup company named Neuralink. The main workflow of this company is to integrate the artificial intelligence with the human brain. Like OpenAI this company also plays an integral role in the research and development sector of artificial intelligence.

The Boring Company:

The idea of this company had popped up when Musk was stuck in Traffic in December 2016. The company was named “The boring company” and started its journey on January 21, 2017. The company started to dig a 50 foot long, 30 foot wide and 15 foot deep tunnel in the area of spaceX, Los Angeles.


Personal Life:



When Musk was in Ontario’s Queen’s University, he met his first wife Justine Wilson, a Canadian author. They got married in 2000 and got separated in 2008. Their first son has died of Sudden infant death syndrome at the age of 10 weeks. Later on they had five sons through in Vitro fertilization. They had twins in 2004 and triplets in 2006.
In 2010, Musk got married to English actress Talulah Riley. In 2012 he ended his relationship with Riley, but in 2013 they remarried. In December 2014 Musk filed for a second divorce from Riley.

      Honorary Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from University of Surrey.
      Honorary Doctorate in Design from the Art center college of Design.
      Honorary Doctorate from AGH Cracow.
      Honorary Doctorate of engineering and Technology from Yale University.
