What is Interpersonal Relationship and how it plays a role in our life

Relationships are the bricks of society. We can't imagine our life without a relationship. Even the hermit who has sacrificed everything including the relationship with his mother has a unique relationship with God. So, the Interpersonal relationship can be described as a strong bond between two or more persons. This relationship is based on love, logic, and harmony or unity and community.

 Interpersonal relationships can be of many types :

Friendship: Friendship is an unconditional unquestionable interpersonal relationship between two or more people. Friendship is such a magical bonding where people enjoy each others company without any expectations and formalities and where mutual affection, transparency, honesty, sharing and caring exist. Friendship as an interpersonal relationship is beyond definition. Friendship can be between a man and a woman, man and man, woman and woman. Emotions like ego, jealousy, hatred, anger should be kept away from friendship to maintain a healthy relationship.

Love relationship: This kind of interpersonal relationship is the most intense and beautiful and at the same time most complex. This relationship is the formulation of emotions like friendship, physical attraction, intellectual compatibility, and, of course, love. Love acts like as the glue that keeps a relationship strong, solid and fresh. It is built on trust, understanding, honesty, mutual respect, passion, and intimacy. Sometimes marriage could be an end result of love or sometimes two individuals choose to remain committed without any social bonding.

Platonic relationship: The Platonic relationship is an emotional and spiritual bonding between two people who love and admire one another because of common interests, a spiritual connection, and similar worldviews without any type of sexual or physical involvement. It is like a friendship between two individuals based on mental connection and compatibility.

Family relationship: This kind of relationship is based on a connection with Blood, Marriage, adoption or kinship. Relationships between parents and children, brothers and sisters etc are the perfect examples of family relationship. There are many different roles within the family category of relationships, including mother, father, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and more.

Professional relationship: A relationship with a colleague, boss or employee and it is regulated by law. A working relationship can turn into a very close friendship to have a good working relationship and on the other hand, it could be void of any personal emotions.

A power of evoking interest in or liking for someone or something between individuals brings them close to each other and eventually results in a strong interpersonal relationship. If individuals feel comfortable and compatible in each other’s company and decide to be with each other, they enter into a relationship. Each and every relationship has different meanings, different goals and even the base on which it is built is distinct in nature.
Interpersonal relationships can grow anytime anywhere. Sometimes, it follows the laws of society, sometimes, it is spontaneous resulting in a beautiful relationship between two individuals. It can emerge anywhere:

  • Between colleagues, boss, and employees
  • A relationship between man and woman
  • Between teachers and students
  • Between parents and children, and with relatives and other family members
  • Relationships between friends
  • Acquaintance with neighbors
  • A relationship can be a spiritual one. Such as relationship between the guru and disciples and relationship with God.

But we should always remember that Relationship can be fragile and lifeless if it lacks oxygen. Emotions and expression of love play a pivotal role to maintain a healthy relationship. There are some necessary elements which help to develop a strong bond:

  • Individuals should possess common goals and objectives in an interpersonal relationship.
  • They should respect each other in interpersonal relationships.
  • Trust, honesty, commitment, transparency, liking for each other etc are the main keys to the successful relationship.

Most interesting and mysterious interpersonal relationship happens between Man and woman. Creation has started with this relationship from the very beginning. Developing a healthy relationship between a man and a woman is a challenging Endeavour. This kind of relationship can start with a friendship and love and finally ends in marriage. There should be a strong connection and an understanding between them and that should grow with the time they spend together. Emotions and expression of love are the main components for this kind of relationship. Passion, intimacy, commitments are the essential part of building this kind of Interpersonal relationship.
